How to reset Crucible Valor rank in Destiny 2

More than just a system for achieving bragging rights for your Crucible prowess, Destiny 2’s Valor ranks provide a pathway to substantial rewards for PvP players. As you rank up, you’ll earn rank-up packages with legendary gear. Certain weapon quests picked up from Crucible vendor Shaxx require you to not only rank up in PvP, but to reset your Valor rank. In this Destiny 2: Shadowkeep guide, we’ll cover how to reset Crucible rank in Destiny 2 and discuss why you would want to reset your Valor rank at all.

What’s the point of resetting Valor rank in Destiny 2?

It may seem counter-intuitive to revert back to zero after grinding for hours and hours to reach Legend, but there are several reasons you may want to reset your rank. First of all, resetting your rank in general will provide you with “powerful” (a.k.a. higher than your current power level) gear, which is handy if you’re looking for a boost. That’s perhaps not worth it on its own, however, as getting to the 2,000 points you’ll need to reset (which is the maximum score you can achieve after getting to Legend rank) will take far longer than doing some of Destiny 2’s other powerful gear-rewarding activities.

Luckily, each of the five ranks before Legend (Guardian, Brave, Heroic, Fabled, and Mythic) have three sub-ranks (ex: Guardian I, II, and III) that reward legendary gear, so you’ll be continually rewarded on the way up. Resetting ranks is also required for earning certain Triumphs and for unlocking Pinnacle weapons, like the Redrix’s Broadsword pulse rifle.

Resetting your Crucible Rank is fairly simple. Once you reach 2,000 points, maxing out your Legend rank, head to the Crucible menu in the Director. If you meet that 2,000-point requirement, you’ll see the option to reset your rank when hovering over any of the quickplay playlists. Hold the specified button, and you’ll receive your reset and its rewards.
