PS4 Disappearing Facebook Profile Picture | Where did my account image go?

If you recently booted up your PlayStation 4 console to find that your lovely visage is missing, don’t panic. The PS4 disappearing Facebook profile picture epidemic has struck any and all players that were making use of the feature on PSN, owing to an unfortunate split between the two companies in question. Here’s what’s going on and how it will come to impact your experience on Sony’s console.

Where has my Facebook profile pic gone on PS4?

When logging in, affected players will receive the following message on their PS4:

“Profile pictures imported from Facebook will no longer be used. We recommend selecting a new picture for PlayStation friends to identify you.”

The exact reasoning behind Facebook’s removal isn’t currently known, though the social media brand told Eurogamer that they’re working with Sony to “improve the Facebook integration on PlayStation” and hopefully bring it back at some point in the future. Profile pictures aren’t the only thing to stand affected, however, with the ability to share videos, screenshots, and trophy activity having also been axed. Perhaps more significantly, the friend finder feature that allowed players to connect with real-world contacts on PlayStation is also now missing.

As for addressing the immediate issue at hand, while your PSN profile will automatically revert to displaying the stock avatar image that you set during the initial account creation process, many players might feel that it no longer represents them. In order to change your avatar to something more fitting, from your console home screen go to [Settings] > [Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Profile] > [Profile Picture] and then make your selection from there.

If you’re still unsatisfied, a range of additional avatars — both free and premium — can be acquired from the PlayStation Store. It’s possible to enter the search term “avatar” or to browse the entire selection by from the home screen navigating to [PlayStation Store] > [Add-Ons] > [Avatars].
