Destiny 2 Bright Dust Bounties How to farm Bright Dust in Shadowkeep

Destiny 2 Bright Dust Bounties | How to farm Bright Dust in Shadowkeep

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep brought major changes to the way Destiny‘s Eververse Store works, particularly when it comes to earning Bright Dust. While the Eververse’s randomized Bright Engrams and certain item packages are purchasable with real money, the Bright Dust currency does not have a direct, real-money conversion. In the past, Bright Dust was earned as a random drop from Bright Engrams and as a reward for dismantling unwanted Eververse items. In Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, that has changed, and Bright Dust is now mainly earned as an in-game reward. This Destiny 2 Bright Dust guide will tell you how to farm Bright Dust in Shadowkeep, and we’ll provide some Bright Dust farming methods and a list of all Bright Dust bounties.

Destiny 2 Bright Dust | How to earn Bright Dust and engrams in Shadowkeep

Destiny 2 Bright Dust How to earn Bright Dust and engrams in Shadowkeep

The old method of getting Bright Dust relied mostly on earning Bright Engrams. Players would earn XP until they ranked up, which would reward them a Bright Engram. The items found in this engram could then be dismantled for Dust. Players could also complete Eververse bounties for Dust, but this all changed with Shadowkeep. Now, the only way to earn Bright Engrams is to either buy them or unlock them as occasional Seasonal Rank rewards. For example, reaching rank 13 will grant you one Nostalgic Engram, a type of Bright Engram that rewards gear from past seasons. As opposed to the old system that rewarded Bright Engrams on every level-up, the Seasonal Rank system rewards engrams every five ranks, so you won’t see another until rank 18. All Bright Engrams earned through Seasonal Rank-ups are a part of the unpaid season, meaning Season Pass holders will not earn extra Bright Engrams. (Note: The only type of Bright Engrams currently available both for purchase and as a part of the Seasonal Rank system are Nostalgic Engrams, so it appears no current-season items can be earned through random engram drops at this time.)

To counteract the reduction in Bright Engram drops, earning Bright Dust is now much more direct. Bright Dust is still occasionally rewarded as a random drop from Bight Engrams, but it can be earned more reliably by completing various bounties. In addition to rewards like glimmer and planetary materials such as Helium Filaments, these bounties will award Guardians with a small amount of Bright Dust. Picking up bounties will cost you glimmer, so it’s best to be careful about which bounties you select. Not every bounty rewards Bright Dust, so we’ll go over which bounties to look out for in the next section. Bungie also said in a June blog post that “there will be an additional avenue to keep grinding out Bright Dust” after you complete the weekly available bounties. Perhaps the team was simply referring to daily, repeatable bounties, but it’s otherwise not yet clear what exactly this method is.

Destiny 2 Bright Dust | Bright Dust bounties and farming methods

Destiny 2 Bright Dust Bounties and farming methods

There is currently no list in-game of which bounties reward Bright Dust, and without a universal list of all available bounties, it can be a huge pain to run from bounty-giver to bounty-giver in order to find relevant bounties. Thankfully, Destiny Reddit user PursuantOdin94 has done the massive amount of work required to dig through all the Season 8 bounties in the light.gg Destiny 2 database to find out which ones reward Bright Dust. Thanks to PursuantOdin94’s post, we now know the complete list of all Bright Dust bounties for Season 8 (organized below alphabetically and by number of objective completions required). Only three types of bounties reward Bright Dust — Crucible, Gambit, and strikes — so don’t waste your time searching for it elsewhere.

According to PursuantOdin94’s testing, the most efficient Bright Dust farming method could be completing strike bounties (available from Zavala at the Tower). If the strike you begin doesn’t have the kind of enemy you need for your bounties (Fallen, Hive, etc.), PursuantOdin94 suggests entering a nearby Lost Sector populated by that enemy type while you’re within the strike activity. This will allow you to complete bounties dependent on enemy types not normally found in that strike. PursuantOdin94 said they were able to get around 200 to 250 Bright Dust per hour while completing strike bounties.

Destiny 2 Bright Dust Eververse Store item prices

Knowing you’ll get about 200 Bright Dust per hour if you grind efficiently, it’s useful to know which Eververse items you’ll be able to afford for each hour you put into Bright Dust farming. While most items in the Eververse Store are sold for the premium Silver currency, Tess Everis (the store’s vendor) keeps a weekly-rotating stock of items available for Bright Dust. You can find some of these items on the main store page below the week’s featured Silver items, and more are found on a separate page within the store labeled “Bright Dust.” Tess sells the following types of items for the listed Bright Dust cost. Tess has yet to sell some item categories, so we’ve noted those missing with three question marks (“???”). We’ll update this guide as more items are sold.
