Guardians returned to the Moon in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, and so did one of the original Destiny‘s often-collected consumable items: Helium Filaments. These little containers of glowing white gas were essential for upgrading certain weapons and armor in the early days of Destiny 1, but at the time of writing, the Destiny 2 Helium Filaments serve a very different function. In this guide, we’ll go over how to find more Helium Filaments and explain all known Helium Filaments uses.
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep | What are Helium Filaments and how are they used?
Within Destiny lore, Helium Filaments appear to be some kind of power cell component. They’re found scattered around in piles on the Moon in both Destiny and Destiny 2. Unlike the Helium Filaments of Destiny 1, however, Destiny 2‘s Helium Filaments are so far only known to have one, fairly insignificant usage. Given that The Spider sells stacks of them for one Legendary Shard, though, it’s possible they will be used for other content later on (possibly for certain exotic quests or the Lectern of Enchantment).

As of writing, Helium Filaments’ only known use is for playing the Tire Game. Found off to the right of the spawn point of the Moon’s Sanctuary area, the Tire Game tasks players with rolling tires down a slope into holes of various sizes, skee-ball-style. While this may seem to be purely a time-waster, completionists will find there’s a reason to spend their hard-earned Helium here: Scoring a perfect game provides the “No Pressure” hidden Triumph. To do this, you’ll have to land three tires in the small, central crater at the base of the ramp. YouTuber AgentFoxy made a handy demonstration of how best to do this.

When farming other planetary materials, it’s usually best to seek out a Ghost shell with the “[planet name] Resource Detector” perk, which marks resource nodules within 30 meters on the HUD. Unfortunately, there’s currently no known “Moon Resource Detector” perk, so your only option is to keep your eyes and ears open for Helium Filament piles. Look for glowing orange objects, usually off to the side near walls or buildings, and listen for the distinct “tinkle” sound chests, Jade Rabbit figures, and other collectibles make when you’re near. Speaking of chests, you can usually find a few Helium Filaments along with Glimmer and items in chests around the Moon, so look for those, as well.
