WoW Classic Phases Timeline | When is new content coming?

With World of Warcraft Classic having been out for a few days now, fans are ravenously consuming content and are looking forward to the next step in the game. Unlike other MMORPGs, we know for a fact what new content we’re going to be able to play, since the bulk of it already happened fifteen years ago. Our WoW Classic Phases timeline will tell you everything you need to know about what to expect next and when you’ll get it from both official and unofficial sources!

Blizzard Entertainment have been pretty transparent about how it expects to roll out content for World of Warcraft Classic. The current release schedule is listed in a forum post. Here’s a rough estimate of the order in which we should be getting new content, straight from the horse’s mouth:

ALSO: If WoW ever gets a graphics update here’s what it could look like

Phase 1 (Classic Launch)

  • Molten Core
  • Onyxia
  • Maraudon

Phase 2

  • Dire Maul
  • Azuregos
  • Kazzak

Phase 3

  • Blackwing Lair
  • Darkmoon Faire
  • Darkmoon deck drops begin

Phase 4

  • Zul’Gurub
  • Green Dragons

Phase 5

  • Ahn’Qiraj War Effort begins
  • Ahn’Qiraj raids open when the war effort dictates
  • Dungeon loot reconfiguration: Tier 0.5 Dungeon gear, Relics, drop rates and location changes

Phase 6

  • Naxxramas
  • Scourge Invasion

Notably, Blizzard mentions that it isn’t sure of the exact dates for the phases beyond the official launch. Thankfully, a forum user has compiled an unofficial estimate to go hand-in-hand with this.

World of Warcraft player Swink took the time to find out the original launch dates of content from the game and translate it to the current phase list. His post on the forums details exactly when he thinks we’ll get our hands on these phases, based on the timeline.

  • Phase 1: 8/27/2019
  • Phase 2: 12/10/2019
  • Phase 3: 4/13/2020
  • Phase 4: 7/12/2020
  • Phase 5: 10/5/2020
  • Phase 6: 3/24/2021

Of course, this estimate of when we’ll get the phases assumes that everything works as well as it did with the original launch of World of Warcraft. Blizzard has had plenty of time to refine the game’s systems in the last 15 years, so it’s entirely possible that we get things faster. However, it’s also possible that the older code may make it more difficult to get it to work correctly with modern systems. While this may not be a 1:1 perfect schedule, it will probably serve as a good estimate.
