Control New Game Plus

Control New Game Plus | Is there a NG+ mode?

Control is the newest game from Remedy, the creators of Max Payne, Alan Wake, and Quantum Break, and it’s due out later this month. It’s a weird psychological horror-shooter with a wide, expansive story and no multiplayer, so it’s a game the developer is clearly hoping we’ll want to play again. That being said, is there a Control New Game Plus mode to give players an incentive to play the game one more time? Is that even possible with this type of game? Let’s have a look.

Will there be a Control New Game Plus mode?

As you make your way through Control, main character Jesse will be able to improve her powers and gain new weapons, so if you want to play the game again you might not want to have to do all that upgrading again. Additionally, there’s apparently plenty of story threads and secrets to find, so replays are encouraged. However, despite all that, sadly Remedy has confirmed that Control will not have a New Game Plus mode.

Why won’t Control have a NG+ mode?

Thomas Puha, Remedy’s Communications Director, confirmed on IGN that Control wouldn’t have a New Game Plus, and that there were several reasons why the studio didn’t want to do that. He said that “there are certain game design constraints, technical reasons and simply a lack of resources” as to why Control doesn’t have a New Game Plus mode.

This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to fans of Remedy’s games, as none of the studio’s previous titles have had a New Game Plus mode either, despite having a lot of replay value. The good news is that Control will not be a short experience, as it apparently takes roughly 10-15 hours to beat, and there are plans for free and paid DLC too.
