Pokemon Go Apple Watch | Discontinued support

Pokemon Go Apple Watch

You will have every right to feel aggrieved at this lack of Pokemon Go Apple Watch support, but unfortunately there isn’t anything you can do about it. It has been in the pipeline for some time, but it has only taken effect as of July 1.

We know this because Niantic explained as much in one of its Top Article questions on its official website back in June. According to the game’s developer, Trainers using Apple Watch would no longer be able to link their device to their iPhone and Pokemon Go after the above date.

The reason behind this is simple enough. Basically, Niantic introduced a feature known as Adventure Sync in Pokemon Go last year. This feature allowed players to track their footstep count, hatch Eggs, and earn Buddy Candy.

The Apple Watch support was only implemented to let you keep track of how many steps you took during every playthrough. With Niantic adding in its own feature that does this, there is no need for a peripheral like the Apple Watch to do the same. For Niantic, it’s a costly endeavor to support, so instead of splitting this between two devices, the developers have instead simply dropped support for the Apple Watch.

You can still use Adventure Sync to track how many kilometers or miles you have walked. You can do this by syncing your fitness app to your smartphone and record your steps this way. It might take you some time to get used to this change, but you can’t quickly check your Pokemon Go data with Apple Watch anymore.
