Players have discovered a Super Mario Maker 2 Superball power-up hidden within the game’s files. The Nintendo Switch game isn’t due to be released worldwide until Friday, but data miners have found the leaked Mario Maker 2 item ahead of time. The Superball isn’t new to the series, but you might not know what it is, or what it can do. To get the lowdown on what the Super Mario Maker 2 Superball is, you can read this guide.
Super Mario Maker 2 Superball | Leaked power-up
With the game being available to play early in France, according to this Reddit thread, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see that the Super Mario Maker 2 Superball item has been leaked.
For those who are unaware of what the Superball is, allow us to explain. The Superball item is a throwable much like the fireballs that Mario can shoot from his hands. It has only ever been found in Super Mario Land and doesn’t actually change Mario’s appearance in that game.
What it does is allow you to throw metallic balls at enemies to do damage to them just like fireballs do. However, the Superball item also collects coins for you if you hit them while it bounces around. This will certainly come in handy on any Super Mario Maker 2 level that is filled with coins to get.
As the above Reddit thread shows, people came across the item while they were beginning to make first levels in Nintendo’s new game. This video shows it in action and proves that Superballs work in exactly the same way as before.
Of course, not everyone was convinced by footage of this first. It wasn’t until data miners looked into the game’s code, and discovered that Superball was present there before the naysayers held their hands up about its inclusion. It’ll be interesting to see if any other old school items are in the game, and how long it could be before they are found.
