Dead by Daylight patch notes update 3.7.0

Dead by Daylight Totems | What are Totems?

Totems were added to Dead by Daylight back in 2016 and are an essential mechanic of the game. Unfortunately, the purpose of Dead by Daylight Totems can be a little unclear, causing players confusion. As such, we have put together a complete Dead by Daylight Totems guide to help explain what Totems are and what their purpose is in the game. So, if you have found yourself wondering what Dead by Daylight totems are, keep on reading.

Dead by Daylight Totems | How many kinds of Totems are there?

Dead by Daylight Totems

In Dead by Daylight there are two different kinds of Totems: Dull and Hex Totems. Each serves a different function and can do different things. So, now that we know how many Totems there are in Dead by Daylight, it is time to figure out exactly what they do and learn how you can use them to your advantage.

Dead by Daylight Totems | What do the different Totems do?

Dull Totems

There can be up to five Dull Totems spread across the Dead by Daylight map at the start of a game. As the name implies, Dull Totems don’t really do anything. The main thing that they do is provide a player 600 Bloodpoints if they cleanse the Dull Totem during a game.

Aside from this, their functions are pretty limited. However, please keep in mind that while Dull Totems are rather useless most of the time, they are capable of doing a few things in a special situation. For example, the Thrill of the Hunt and NOED Hex Totems rely on Dull Totems in order to function. However, the process can be a bit confusing, so if you’re interested, one player explains it well on comment #6 of this Steam thread.

Hex Totems

Hex Totems, on the other hand, have a clear purpose and function in Dead by Daylight. If the Killer equips one of the seven Hex Perks at the start of a game, one of the five Dull Totems will become a Hex Totem. The chosen Hex Perk will be tied to a specific Hex Totem which neither the Killer or Survivors will be able to recognize. So, as long as the Hex Totem remains, the Killer will be able to use its special perk to their advantage.

If one of the Survivors is able to cleanse the Hex Totem, they will be able to take away the Hex Perk from the Killer, leaving them without the perk for the remainder of the game. In addition to taking away the perk from the Killer, the player who cleanses the Hex Totem will be rewarded with 1000 Bloodpoints.

Now that you have a better idea of what the Dead by Daylight Totems do, get out there and use them to your advantage!
