Dauntless is a co-op RPG that is finally having an official launch after spending an extended amount of time in open beta. Since Dauntless is launching on PC, Xbox One, and PS4, a lot of people are wondering, is Dauntless cross-platform and does Dauntless support cross-play?
The co-op game is releasing on consoles and is one of the latest titles to be added to the lineup of Epic Games Store exclusives on PC alongside some major titles like Borderlands 3. In Dauntless, players will play as a Slayer, a rare class of heroes who risk their lives to defend the Shattered Isles. Since it is a co-op adventure, a lot of players would like to play with their friends across various gaming platforms. So, is Dauntless cross-platform?
Does Dauntless support cross-platform play?
The answer is yes, Dauntless does offer cross-platform cross-play between PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Dauntless is technically the first ever game in the industry to offer true cross-platform play at launch across all platforms, which is quite an accomplishment for the developers at independent game studio Phoenix Labs.
When talking about the Dauntless cross-platform launch, Phoenix Labs CEO Jessie Houston said, “When we first started talking about ‘One Dauntless,’ we knew it was a truly audacious goal. No one has ever launched on console with full cross-play support from the start, but we believed in our vision and, thankfully, our friends at Epic Games, Sony, and Microsoft did too.”
The developers have been promoting the launch of Dauntless with the phrase “One Dauntless,” which was inspired by the hope the developers had that players would be able to play the game across any platform with friends on any device. It is truly remarkable to see a smaller studio pull off a big feat like this, especially when Sony is very particular about its cross-platform standards.
