Want to play Apex Legends with friends on the same console? Playing Apex Legends Split Screen maybe isn’t the first thing on everyone’s mind, but for those who are still ingrained in the halycon days of local co-op may possibly be looking to invite a mate or two around so you can all play split screen on Apex Legends on PS4 or Xbox One. Below, you’ll discover why maybe this is a feature that’s going to be left in the past. Sob.
Is there an Apex Legends Split Screen mode on PS4 or Xbox One?
No, there isn’t an Apex Legends Split Screen option on PS4 or Xbox One. In fact, it’s a feature that is fairly under-utilized when it comes to battle royale games. Fortnite doesn’t have it, though the likes of Call of Duty Black Ops 4‘s Blackout mode does.
Of course, there’s still a chance it’ll come to the game in future but we’ve tried the normal methods for co-op on Xbox One and PS4 and there’s no option to either join as guest or play split screen with two controllers on the same console. Traditionally, you’d follow this method on PS4, for example:
- Hold down the PS4 button on the second controller
- Sign in as a second user
- Press a button (typically Triangle) to join the lobby as a guest
- Play split screen
However, it just didn’t work on Apex Legends.
That even includes logging in as either a second Gamertag on Xbox One or logging in as a second user on PS4.
Can I play Apex Legends local co-op on the same console?
As it’s a multiplayer-only game and, curiously, a multiplayer game without split screen, there is no way to play local co-op on Apex Legends.
Again, watch this space but, for now, there’s absolutely no way to play two-player split screen, four-player split-screen or any other combination you can think of. This is strictly an online-only game, one where you need an internet connection, as well as friends or strangers to play with online across different consoles. Maybe keep the extra joypad in storage for now. You never know when you might need it.
