Smash Ultimate Rematch and Replay Challenger Approaching After Losing in Smash Bros Ultimate

With over 65 characters to unlock, losing to a challenger approaching in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate can be a crushing experience. However, what if I told you there was a way to unlock a Smash Ultimate rematch challengers mode? Pretty nifty, right? Even better, the option to replay when losing to a new challenger approaches in Smash Ultimate is super easy to figure out once you know how.

What Happens if I Lose to a Challenger Approaching in Smash Bros Ultimate?

Super Smash Bros Ultimate a Challenger Approaching

Unlike in previous games in the Smash series where you had to jump through a very specific set of hoops to gain the chance to fight a new character, which you could then beat and add to your roster, this time around it’s (mostly) time-based.

That means, thankfully, that a loss isn’t the end of the world, nor do you have to play for hours and hours or rely on the RNG gods to get a chance to battle the new foe again. Here’s how to rematch a new challenger approaching.

How to Unlock Smash Ultimate Rematch Challengers – Can I Replay A New Challenger Approaches?

Smash Bros Rematch Challengers Menu

The first thing you need to do after losing is, well, to keep playing Smash Ultimate. After a handful of games, you’ll then need to go to the blue “Games & More” tab at the top right hand corner of the Smash Ultimate main menu. Click through to that, and you’ll see a very interesting golden door appearing at the bottom of your screen, entitled “Challenger’s Approach.”

All you need to do now is press that and you’ll be whisked away into another rematch (and more, if you fail again) so you can finally beat that darned character and open them up for use yourself. Remember, though, the ability to do this isn’t instant; keep playing Smash Ultimate (typically for 8-10 minutes) before checking back. It will be there, though, eventually. Promise.
