Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee take more than a few cues from the mobile title Pokemon Go, and berries are no exception. The Pokemon Let’s Go berry types and uses are definitely more in line with Pokemon Go then they are with berries you may be familiar with from the core series.
Instead of using berries like Oran as a healing item, in this game berries have different uses. The Razz, Nanab, and Pinup berries are all used to help catch Pokemon to varying intensities and effects. Due to the new catch system in Pokemon Let’s Go, you can’t simply battle a Pokemon to help make them easier to collect. The new Pokemon Let’s Go berry types help make up for this.
Aside from making it easier to capture Pokemon, the only other use for berries is to feed them to your partner Pokemon during play mode to make them happier.
If you’ve been a bit curious as to what these berries do. when you should use them, or even just how to get your hands on them, this guide will help you understand everything about the Pokemon Let’s Go berry types.
How to Find All Pokemon Let’s Go Berry Types
You can find various Pokemon Let’s Go berry types all over the world. If you have a Pokemon walking with you (aside from Eevee or Pikachu) they will often find berries for you, so pay attention to them when they run off to sniff a bush.
Checking bushes regularly yourself can also result in finding berries fairly reliably, so if you’re running low, make sure to have a look as you’re passing by.
Another reliable way to get more berries is to simply catch Pokemon. Often catching a pokemon will also result in receiving a few bonus items and often they include berries. Additionally, you can use a Pinap Berry while catching a Pokemon as explained below, these berries increase your chances of getting items.
How to Use All Pokemon Let’s Go Berry Types
Berries are items collected in areas spread all across the game, and they are stored in your bag in the catching pocket alongside your various types of Pokeballs.
While you’re having an encounter with a wild Pokemon, scroll down to “bag.” This will take you straight to your catching pocket, and it’s here that you can select the berry type you want as well as your different Pokeballs.
Once a berry has been selected, you’ll be taken back to the encounter screen. Note that the circle will change to the color it would be if you were using a standard Pokeball if you had a more effective ball equipped. Choose “use” to give the Pokemon the berry; doing so will apply that berry’s abilities to your next throw.
You’ll need to use another berry on your next throw if you aren’t successful in capturing the Pokemon with the first. From what we can tell, using multiple berries in one turn appears to override the previous berry.
Pokemon Let’s Go Berry Types and Berry Tiers
All of the Razz, Pinap, and Nanab berries come in different tiers in Pokemon Go. A regular Berry is the lowest tier and will be the least effective. Silver is the second level, being better than regular berries, while gold berries are the best and rarest berries. Gold berries will be the most effective in helping you catch Pokemon, but you may want to be careful when you use them so as not to run out.
Pokemon Let’s Go Berry Types – Razz Berry
“A Berry that makes it slightly easier to catch Pokemon when given to them.”
Razz berries are probably one of the more useful berries in Pokemon Let’s Go, and are likely the first kind of berry you’ll encounter during your playthrough. Much like in Pokemon Go, these berries will make a Pokemon slightly easier to catch. They simply increase your odds of being successful in catching a Pokemon, but timing your shot and making the throw is still entirely on you.
When to Use a Razz Berry
When you’re facing a Pokemon in the wild, take a look at the colored ring that shrinks around the Pokemon. The color of the ring indicates how difficult that Pokemon will be to catch after a ball is thrown.
Green is an easy catch, yellow is a bit trickier, orange will be harder again, and the most difficult tier is red. Use these colors to judge whether or not a Pokemon deserves a Razz Berry before making your shot.
It’s also worth noting that if the color tier is only yellow, there may not be much point in using a higher quality berry. Your catch chances can only be increased so much, so it’s doubtful using a gold berry in this situation would net you the full benefits.
Catch chances may also depend on how many berries you have and how much you want the Pokemon. If, for example, you’ve been shiny hunting for a while (find out how to catch a shiny here) it may be worth still using a Razz Berry even if the ring isn’t too difficult a color tier.
Don’t forget, Pokemon can run away when you’re trying to catch them. If you really want to add this wild monster to your team, consider increasing your odds with a tasty Razz Berry.
Pokemon Let’s Go Berry Types – Nanab Berry
“A Berry that calms wild Pokemon you’re trying to catch slightly when given to them.”
Nanab Berries are the second most useful berries in Pokemon Let’s Go for catching a Pokemon. These berries slow down a wild Pokemon’s movements to make it easier to aim your Pokeball. It won’t increase your chances of catching like a Razz Berry, but getting a better throw does, and that’s why Nanab Berries can be useful.
When to Use a Nanab Berry
If the wild Pokemon you’re trying to catch is just too energetic to easily throw a ball at, that’s where Nanab Berries come into play.
These berries can be especially useful on some flying Pokemon who move around erratically, taking full advantage of their vertical abilities. If you’re frustrated at how many balls you’re wasting just trying to even hit a Pokemon with a ball, that’s a good sign it’s time to make use of a Nanab Berry.
As with Razz Berries, the tier you want to use will probably depend on how much trouble this Pokemon is giving you. If it’s only moving a little it may not be worth using a silver or gold Nanab Berry on for minimal changes.
Nanab Berries are also useful if your catch circle is already green but you want to be extra sure of catching this Pokemon. In those cases, a Razz Berry may not be very useful as it’s already a good chance of catching. Instead, try a Nanab Berry to increase your chances of getting the best throw possible.
Pokemon Let’s Go Berry Types – Pinap Berry
“A Berry that makes you slightly more likely to get an item when it’s given to Pokemon you’re trying to catch”
Pinap Berries are the final kind of berry you can find in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee. They aren’t the most useful unless you’re trying to farm certain items, as they don’t make catching Pokemon any easier. Instead, these berries give you a higher chance of receiving an item when catching a wild Pokemon.
When to Use a Pinap Berry
The simple answer to this is to use a Pinap Berry whenever you aren’t using one of the other berries. If you’re not too worried about your chances of capturing a Pokemon, then you should consider using a Pinap Berry.
Pinap Berries give you a better chance at receiving dropped items, including Pokemon Candy for helping to power up your team. They can also give you more berries, so if you’re starting to run low and you want to go farming for a specific Pokemon, using Pinaps on Pokemon you’re not too worried about could help you stock up in advance.
It’s not worth saving Pinaps for a rainy day, so use them often to try to stock up on items you may actually need. Using Pinaps may even result in getting more Pinap Berries, so our best advice is to use these berries whenever you like.
