Fallout 76 Failed to Launch – How to Validate Game Files

A laundry list of bugs have plagued Bethesda’s MMO, but none more annoying than the Fallout 76 failed to launch bug. While you’re probably sat there wondering why you paid 60 smackaroos for this, you’re also trying to figure out how to validate game files in Fallout 76. Well, here’s the quick fix for the Fallout 76 failed to launch error message.

Fallout 76 Failed to Launch – What is the Issue?

If you’re curious as to what the issue is, and how to avoid it yourself, here’s the message that pops up when you try and launch the game: “Fallout 76  failed to launch. Please validate the game files and try again (2.19.2.16.10.2583)” You’ll then be directed to validate the game’s files and/or start the game. Neither option will work and you’re stuck in a seemingly eternal loop, hoping you can luck out and actually play the game. But, like all problems, there’s a solution. Here’s how to fix it.

Fallout 76 Failed to Launch – How to Validate Game Files

This isn’t so much validating the game files as just making sure the error doesn’t pop up again. Still, the end result is the same: you can join in and play Fallout 76. This beautiful, beautiful fix comes from Bethesda forum user LegendGamer1288. Yes, their username lives up to the hype, as they’ve given not one but two solutions for the Fallout 76 failed to launch problem.

The first fix is definitely the easiest. Head into the game’s folder and simply find the fallout76.exe file, double click it, and away you go. That seems to sidestep all of the murky issues the game has come saddled with over the past few days.

The more complicated, but more thorough, way to rid your game of the failed to launch error is to move all game files to a different location. Preferably a folder on your desktop marked “Fallout 76 NEW” or somesuch, for convenience. Uninstall the game, then reinstall it but crucially reinstall it in the Fallout 76 NEW folder. You should now be able to launch the game and play as normal. God bless you, LegendGamer1288.
