Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Cultist Disguise Can’t Equip Armor Bug – How to Fix

Plenty of problems have been cropping up when dealing with the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey “Can’t Remove Cultist Disguise” bug. The glitch, which seems to pop around the time of The Serpent’s Lair main story quest, sees players being unable to remove the Cultist Disguise and are trapped within the confines of the sartorial nightmare that is the mask and cloak for the rest of the game. Here’s how to fix the Cultist Disguise bug.

What is the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Cultist Disguise Bug?

In the mission The Serpent’s Lair you are required to, mild spoilers here, don the garb of the Cult of Kosmos and infiltrate their ranks. Unfortunately, while you are meant to remove the Cultist Disguise at the end of the mission, many are finding that the opposite takes place and you end up having the mask and cloak locked to your character permanently, unless you have a manual save slot from before the mission’s starting point.

For many, though, that isn’t a possibility. If that’s you, you’re best off waiting for Ubisoft to release a hotfix or patch for the game, as hard as that may be to stomach.

If you’ve got a save game prior to this, or are on your way to starting The Serpent’s Lair, though, a fix comes from Ubisoft forum user Denzelmate. The solution, they say, is to remove all weapons, items, and clothing before speaking to Herodotus at the Sanctuary of Delphi to end the mission. Also, a manual save before beginning the mission wouldn’t go amiss as it’s a perfect jumping off point should you want to leave the game until the bug is patched out.

Once that’s done, exit out of your game completely. On Xbox One and PS4, that means quitting out of your game through the console’s main menu (press Start/Options then “Quit Game”) and, on PC, exiting by closing the client. Reload the game and speak to Herodotus; it is, however, important that you don’t skip dialogue (particularly the moment where your character says “My clothes. Spear.”) as it may cause the game to glitch again and not register either Alexios or Kassandra as removing the Cultist Disguise.
