Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Region Levels – Do They Scale?

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is out this week, and it can be a pretty tough game at times. Sometimes it feels as if as the game’s enemies are improving along with the player, so things aren’t getting any easy. Is there auto-leveling in the game? Do Assassin’s Creed Odyssey region levels scale along with the player, or do they stay the same? And if there is region auto-level scaling, how does it work? We’ll do our best to answer.

Do Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Region Levels Auto-Scale With the Player’s Level?

In short: yes, they do. As you level up in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey the game’s regions will level scale with you, but they have a minimum and maximum level of difficulty. The starting island of Kephallonia, for example, will level with the player. As they hit level 5 (the maximum) both numbers will be the same, and will only starting scaling once the player hits level 8, at which point it will increase one level.

How Does Region Auto-Scaling Work?

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is not quite like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, where the entire world leveled up with you, and basic enemies always stayed ahead. If you look on the map, each region in the game has two numbers in white next to its name, with a shield between. These indicate the minimum and maximum levels of those regions, at that time. Megaris and Phokis start with quite low levels, but the nearby Boeotia starts with a min/max level of 34/38. As you enter Boeotia, you’ll find enemies and loot between those ranks.

However, both theses numbers will scale up a bit as your character increases their level past 34. The lower numbered level will continue to increase until you hit the higher level, at which point both minimum/maximum numbers will equal the same. At this point enemies and loot will all be the same level. As you level up, regions will auto-level scale, but if you pass the maximum region level that area will always remain two levels lower than yours.

Basically, the game will always remain a challenge, but you’ll usually be a couple of levels ahead of “lower” regions. So in other words, don’t leave chests to later. Raid them as soon as you can.
