How to Play Red Dead Redemption on PS4

Red Dead Redemption PS4 version is available to play while you’re waiting for Red Dead Redemption 2 to launch on October 26. You might think that PlayStation isn’t backwards compatible with discs and that Red Dead Redemption was a PS3 game. Both are technically correct. However, where there’s a will, there’s a way. Here’s how to play Red Dead Redemption on PS4.

How to Play Red Dead Redemption on PS4

Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption launched to critical acclaim way back in 2010. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel ever since, and the time has nearly come for that dream to become a reality. However, what can those of us who no longer have a PS3 do while we wait for October 26? Well, we can download PS Now.

PS Now is the streaming service offered by Sony as their answer to the matter of backwards compatibility. The PS3’s build didn’t suit a more hardware-oriented approach to the issue, so for a long time PS4 was emphatically PS4-only. PS2 games came first, followed by PS4 games. Now, there’s a whole suite of PS2, PS3, and PS4 titles available on PS Now. What’s even better is that the service is no longer a streaming service, either. You can now download the games straight to your library, meaning that you won’t suffer from lag due to network errors. However, this feature does not extend to PS3 games like Red Dead Redemption so you’ll still have to stream them.

New subscribers have the option to try PS Now for a week for free, or to get PS Now for $9.99 for their first month. These options are mutually exclusive. After the first week or month, a full year costs $99.99. PlayStation Plus members have the option to get three months for $29.99, too.

PS Now has lots of great titles on offer. Among these are the BioShock games, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the original God of War trilogy, The Last of Us, and, you guessed it—Red Dead Redemption.
