Nintendo Switch Online Family Membership

Nintendo Switch Online Family Plan Explained

Nintendo Switch’s paid online service is launching September 18, 2018. Gamers have an option to go solo or save with the Nintendo Switch Online Family Plan. Here is everything we know about the service: from the cost, the services provide, the game library you’ll get access to, and all other additional features.

Nintendo Switch Online Family Plan

The Nintendo Switch Online Family Plan is $34.99. With this plan a Nintendo Account holder may add up to seven others to join a family group; all members will be able to play online.

An individual membership, on the other hand can be broken down as follows:

  • $3.99 a month
  • $7.99 for 3 months
  • $19.99 for 12 months

You’ll be able to purchase the online service, when it launches September 18, 2018 via Nintendo.com, the Nintendo eShop, or at select retailers.

Any account can be added to the family plan, including child accounts.  “Parents may use Nintendo Switch Parental Controls to set restrictions for online play; restrictions for the Nintendo Online Service app can be managed with your smartphone’s parental control restriction settings.”

As of now the Nintendo Online Service app still only includes features for Splatoon 2.

Nintendo Switch Online: Additional Details

Nintendo Switch Online will launch with 20 NES games with added online play for the first time ever. Additional games will be added regularly. Here are the launch titles:

  • Soccer
  • Balloon Fight
  • Tennis
  • Ice Climber
  • Donkey Kong
  • Dr. Mario
  • Mario Bros.
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • More to be announced!

The service will also offer save data cloud backup but this will not apply to all games. Splatoon 2 and Dead Cells already list on their webpages that they do not support Save Data Cloud backup. The following upcoming titles will also not support cloud saves: Dark Souls Remastered, Pokemon Let’s Go, NBA 2K19, and FIFA 19.

Nintendo claims this is to prevent cheating although its worth nothing that cross-platform titles such as Dark Souls Remastered already has cloud saves on PS4, Xbox One, and PC so we do know its possible.

More details regarding the service, specifically cloud saves, have yet to be announced.
