The Witcher Netflix series just found its lead actor and is seemingly picking up steam. It’s now been announced that Geralt of Rivia will be portrayed by Henry Cavill, star of movies such as The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Mission Impossible: Fallout, but who is best known as DC’s current Superman from Man of Steel and Justice League. With the star cast, there must be a trailer coming soon, but when can we expect The Witcher Netflix Trailer?
The Witcher Netflix Trailer: Is There a Trailer?
There is currently no trailer for The Witcher Netflix TV show as of yet. Aside from Henry Cavill, no other characters have been cast, or at least not announced. If there was a trailer it would just feature Cavill, which is possible as he’s the star and the character the show’s named after. For example, the exciting cinematic trailer for the first The Witcher game on PC only featured Geralt. Since that was also a scene from The Last Wish, the first book in the series which the Netflix show is being based on, they may go for something similar.
When can we expect The Witcher Netflix Trailer?
Despite the recent casting of Henry Cavill, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has said on Twitter that we shouldn’t expect to see The Witcher Netflix series until around about 2020, so not even next year. Consequently, at best we can probably expect The Witcher Netflix trailer to drop sometime in 2019, probably towards the end of the year.
The first trailer will most likely not include just Geralt of Rivia. While he is the titular character, and obviously the games spend the most time in his presence, the books frequently jump between characters. Later books tend to focus more on Ciri, the “child of destiny” who is the heart of the series up to and including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Geralt’s main love interest, the sorceror Yennefer, is also a major character who will almost certainly have to appear in the trailer. As such, these characters will need to be cast first.
In other words, don’t expect The Witcher Netflix trailer soon
