Syncing Data with Overwatch

Syncing Data With Overwatch Guide: Xbox Live Servers Are Down

Syncing data with Overwatch isn’t quite what you might think it is. You see, your data – in terms of level, Skill Rating, and unlocks – is actually backed up by your platform-specific account already. So, when you get an error message that says, “We couldn’t get your latest saved data. Try again or use this game or app offline,” there’s no need to worry about losing any of your progress. It’s all backed up on the Blizzard servers, nice and safe.

Syncing Data With Overwatch: Xbox Live Servers Are Down

You see, it’s the latter half of the error message that actually contains the relevant information. This message is returned to Xbox One users when the Xbox Overwatch servers are down. This is why it suggests using the app offline – which, is unavailable in terms of Overwatch, so thanks for that useful stock message, Microsoft.

When you get the error message telling you that your latest saved data wasn’t able to be retrieved, your best bet is to test your connection. This can be done by adhering to the following steps:

First, you’re going to need to press the Guide button on your controller. From here, select the following options in sequence: Settings, System Settings, and Network Settings. Now, you should be able to see the name of your Wireless Network, or Wired Network, if you use a wired connection. Finally, select Test Xbox Live Connection. Remember that you have to sign out of your account to do this, so if that’s going to be an issue for one reason or another, it’s best to finish up what you’re doing and test your connection once you’re able to sign out.

Once you’ve done this, you’ll get a report on the status of your connection to the Xbox Live Servers. Given that you received the error message from Overwatch, it’s likely that you’re not connected; if this is the case, you need to reset your router, or follow the suggestions in Xbox’s interface for rectifying connectivity issues. However, if the Xbox Live Servers themselves are down, this is out of your hands, unfortunately. This message will repeatedly pop up every time you try to access Overwatch, or any other online games for that matter. All you can do is pay attention to the live updates provided by Microsoft and the Xbox Live team. As soon as it’s announced that the Servers are back up and running, you’ll be able to access Overwatch again, with all of your saved data intact. Again, don’t worry about syncing anything. It’s all there for you.
