Summer Skirmish Rules: How Points Work in Fortnite’s Grand Finals

The Fortnite Summer Skirmish grand final is happening right now. But many tuning in to the official Fortnite Twitch stream are unsure regarding the Summer Skirmish Rules. Here’s a a breakdown of how points work that will help you understand the strategies players are using.

Summer Skirmish Rules: Week 8 Info

There were three qualifying events directly leading up to the grand finals, with 33 players coming out of each event. The grand final consists of 99 players, in keeping with the battle royale theme. Regardless of the Summer Skirmish stage the point breakdown functions the same.

Summer Skirmish Rules: Points and Rewards

  • Victory Royale: +3 Points
  • 2nd-3rd Place: +2 Points
  • 4th-10th Place: +1 Point
  • 7+ Eliminations: +3 Points
  • 5-6 Elimination: +2 Points
  • 3-4 Eliminations: +1 Point

Anyone who has made it to the grand final will automatically walk away with at least $5,000 (those who rank 21-100). After that it will incrementally increase so 20 and higher are looking at some serious cash.

In Stage 3, aka the grand final, a Victory Royale earns players $25,000. The points will determine your standing and first prize winner will earn $225,000.

Summer Skirmish Rules: How it Affects Strategy

Players need to at least make it to the top ten if they want to earn any points for their efforts. Although it’s worth nothing that 3-4 eliminations can also earn a point. With all this in mind players are being particularly defensive in their play. Early on most people are spending their time gathering resources. Although players will go for the kill when it’s convenient or when they become somewhat fixated on a player, ending up in a kill or be killed situation.

People want to at least break the top ten and the result is that they eye of the storm will become really small while still holding upwards of 45 players in an extremely confined area. A common strategy being implemented is creating a complex catacomb structure so that even when players are above one another it becomes difficult to track movement. While playing it safe is the most popular move, many players can get caught up in trying to secure that third elimination kill (to earn at least one point) which obviously has mixed results.

The stream is easy to follow even if you’re a total Fortnite amateur because anyone can relate to the strategies being used. At the same time, those participating in the Fortnite Summer Skirmish grand final is at a higher caliber than the average player, to say the least, resulting in entertaining matches.
