Nintendo Switch Netflix Support: Is Netflix Switch Coming Soon?

Compared to other consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One, the Nintendo Switch is still lacking in one important category, and that’s for media entertainment. For example, Netflix and YouTube remain unavailable for the hybrid console when even mobile Android and iOS devices received those apps a long time ago. Don’t grab those pitchforks just yet as there might be hope for Nintendo Switch Netflix support down the road.

Nintendo Switch Netflix Support: Is Netflix Switch Coming Soon?

Let’s establish the facts first. The Nintendo Switch can, in fact, support media streaming pretty well. The Hulu app has been available for download on the Nintendo eShop since November 2017. The hybrid console is perfectly capable of streaming media content, thanks to its ARM-based processor and the similarity of its OS to that of Android. Furthermore, Netflix is already available on other Nintendo devices like the Wii, Wii U, and even the Nintendo 3DS. So, what’s stopping Netflix from releasing on the Nintendo Switch?

We speculate that the most profitable time for the Nintendo Switch Netflix support to arrive would be after Nintendo Switch Online launches sometime in the second half of September. Nintendo would want to take advantage of the hybrid console’s full online potential when the paid subscription service arrives.

Nintendo Switch Netflix Support: According to Nintendo

ComicBook reported in late June 2018 that Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime addressed the Nintendo Switch Netflix support issue. He said that questions regarding the matter should be referred to “the folks at Netflix.” He also reiterated that the Nintendo Switch was a gaming-first platform and that other media streaming services will arrive “in due time.”

Nintendo Switch Netflix Support: According To Netflix

It definitely sounds like it’s all up to Netflix. Let’s see what the media streaming giant has to say about the issue. Earlier this year, Netflix company device partnership VP Scott Mirer shared with CinemaBlend that the company has a great “relationship” with Nintendo. He also confirmed that Nintendo Switch Netflix Support might happen at some point.

All in all, it’s an issue that should be resolved at some point in the near future, just don’t expect a 2018 release date, not has there been any official Nintendo Switch Netflix release date announced.
