UFC 3 Update Patch Notes: What’s Changed in UFC 3 Gameplay Update 8?

Like a sucker punch to the jaw, a new UFC 3 update has appeared out of nowhere to floor us. That’s because an extensive amount of changes has been made to the MMA game in UFC 3 Gameplay Update 8: new fighters, a tweak to certain mechanics, and a whole host of gameplay fixes to ensure your next trip to the octagon will be the freshest yet.

UFC 3 Update Patch Notes: Main Changes

Outside of the three new UFC 3 fighters, the Gameplay Update 8 focuses on, you guessed it, gameplay. A new mocap shoot, for example, has allowed the team at EA Canada to introduce a new feature where knocking an opposing fighter down when their back is against the cage will immediately place them in a seated position, ready for the KO.

Elsewhere, active knockdowns now mean a radical change for those wanting to keep strikes raining down on their opponent in the aftermath of a knockdown. Different contextual animations have been introduced and, additionally, those on the receiving end of a knockdown can also choose to stay down to avoid getting smacked into the back of the cage. Probably for the best.

Finally, footwork has revamped considerably, which now allows players to slip and duck away from oncoming danger, as well as chaining lunges together to help make short work of a particularly punch-heavy opponent.

Three new fighters have also been introduced, free of charge. They are as follows:

  • David Branch (Middleweight)
  • Tai Tuivasa  (Heavyweight)
  • Zabit Magomedsharipov (Featherweight)

That now brings the full UFC 3 roster to nearly 250, which is utterly incredible.

While we’ve only briefly touched on the main changes and key elements to the new UFC 3 update, there’s plenty more where that came from. EA has put together an extensive Gameplay Update blog which charts every single minute change in painstaking detail. Check it out if you’ve got a spare 15 minutes because, seriously, it’s intense.
