Splatoon 2 Splatfest: New Splatfest Dates, Theme, and Times

The next North American Splatoon 2 Splatfest will divide the community over utensils: fork versus spoon. Below is everything you need to know about the Splatfest: when it happens, how the theme is (or isn’t) in-line with Splatfest history, how to select your team, why team selection matters, how points are rewarded, and what you can earn from participating. The Splatfest should be officially announced tonight as it’s always announced seven days prior to the start of the event.

Splatoon 2 Splatfest: When Does Splatfest Start?

The new fork versus spoon Splatoon 2 Splatfest will start at 9 p.m. PT on August 24 to 9 p.m. PT on August 25.

Splatoon 2 Splatfest: Theme

Twitter user Jelonzo found this Splatfest and, like all others, involves players choosing between two sides within some sort of connected theme. North America, Europe, and Japan each have their own Splatfests with their own themes meaning you’ll only play against others from your region.

Themes can be related to brands and characters but more often than not they’re expressing some sort of dichotomy (ex. pulp versus no pulp) or preference (ex. cake versus ice cream). In that sense fork versus spoon stands out because it doesn’t seem to fit either of those parameters perfectly. However, we’ve seen deviations from the formula before (i.e sweaters versus socks) so while it may seem odd it’s not completely out of the ordinary for Splatoon 2.

Splatoon 2 Splatfest: Selecting Your Splatfest Team

In order to select your side, you’ll have to wait for the official announcement from Pearl and Marina during Off The Hook, the show that begins automatically as soon as you load the game.

Once announced you can select your side by walking up to the Splatfest terminal that sits in the middle of Inkopolis (in between the stores/the Shoal, and just outside the Deca Tower). Pearl will fight for the fork side and all its precision, while Marina will advocate for the scooping powers of the spoon.

As usual, the side you select has little bearing on your Splatfest experience. But keep in mind that you can only team up with friends who are on the same team. If that matters to you, you’ll want to coordinate because you cannot change teams once you’ve selected them. If you don’t care about playing with people on your friends list, select based on preference or loyalty to your favorite host.

You are required to select a side in order to play the game. During Splatfest no other game modes are available with the hopes of funneling more players into the Splatfest. You can play Splatfest alone or in a team of four friends who have selected the same side.

Splatoon 2 Splatfest: Stages

Splatfest has been a tradition since the first Splatoon game. It’s a special Turf War event that often includes a special stage. This Splatfest will have Shifty Station, an area with twisting panels that can block off or create paths for the player depending on your ability to navigate them.

Splatoon 2 Splatfest: Tees

During the Splatfest, your clothing is replaced with the Splatfest Tee of your respective team. As soon as you vote, you have access to your Splatfest Tee. The benefit of wearing it early is you can acquire sub abilities before the Splatfest even begins, giving you an advantage over other players. However, after the Splatfest ends the tee is removed from your inventory completely so don’t get too attached to your new look.

Splatoon 2 Splatfest: How Points Work

Splatfest Points are earned by winning matches.

  • Winning a match: 4 Splatfest Points
  • Participation bonuses are based on how much BP’s worth of ground you ink
    • 200-399 BPs: 1 Bonus Point

Splatoon 2 Splatfest: How Results Are Calculated

Splatfest Results are determined by the following three factors:

Popularity: The percentage of the vote each team gets.

Team Wins: The percentage of matches each “team” team wins.

Splatoon 2 Splatfest: What Can I Win From Doing Splatfest?
