Moira Nerf: How the Latest Overwatch Update Changed the Healer

Blizzard giveth, Blizzard taketh away. With the latest Overwatch update, one of the more popular healer mains, Moira, has undergone a few changes. Namely, one of the most useful moves in her repertoire has been wiped from the game completely. So, if you’re at a loose end, here’s the Moira nerf explained, as well as what might happen to the game’s competitive element now Overwatch has taken away a useful, if technically game-breaking, tactic.

Moira Nerf: What’s Changed for Moira in Overwatch?

As per the Overwatch PTR Patch Notes, Blizzard has “fixed a bug that allowed Moira’s Biotic Grasp to heal targets behind an enemy barrier.” In layman’s terms, that means Moira’s infinitely useful move that saps enemies of their health, while giving Moira some HP of her own can no longer be used if there’s a barrier blocking her and her opponent.

Elsewhere, Moira changes are as follows:

  • Fixed a bug that prevented Moira’s Biotic Grasp from damaging barriers
  • Fixed a bug that caused Moira’s Biotic Grasp’s beam to disappear when attaching to barriers from certain angles

While nowhere near as emphatic as the loss of Biotic Grasp through barriers, these are changes worth noting. Blizzard has ensured that barriers can still be damaged, even going as far as polishing a bug that halts it in his tracks.

Moira Nerf: Will This Affect Healers?

Putting it mildly, if you’re a Moira main, you may want to look elsewhere. Other healers, such as Ana and Mercy being far more useful options now, with Brigitte being the main pick thanks to her emphasis on offense compared to straight-up support and healing.

Moira Nerf: When Does The Overwatch Nerf Go Live?

For now, the nerf is only available on the Public Test Region server on PC. Expect it to roll out elsewhere within the week.
