God of War Fast Travel

God of War How to Fast Travel

Like most open world games God of War has a fast travel system. There’s a large world to explore, and sometimes you’re going to want a way to get back somewhere you’ve been before without having to travel across half of Midgard. However, it’s not quite as simple as pointing somewhere on your map and zipping wherever you want to go. Learning how fast travel works can be a pain in God of War, but it does add to the immersion. Below we’ll tell you how to unlock fast travel in God of War and when it gets upgraded to be more useful.

How to Fast Travel in God of War

Starting out in God of War, you’re going to have to hoof it to get where you’re going. There are no easy rides for Kratos and Atreus, and you’re going to have to earn the right to fast travel. Until you get to Tyr’s Temple in the middle of the Lake of the Nine, you won’t even hear about any method to quickly teleport through Midgard.

Once you enter Tyr’s Temple, the Dwarven blacksmith Brok will unlock the fast travel system and introduce you to the Mystic Gateways that allow you to walk the branches of the World Tree as a shortcut between locations. From then on you’ll start finding glowing piles of rocks here and there that signify a point from which you can fast travel. To activate a Mystic Gateway you just have to approach it and press the circle button. The map screen will open, and then you can choose where to go. However, there are a few things about the fast travel system in God of War to keep in mind.

One of the caveats to God of War’s fast travel system is that you must find a Mystic Gateway in a location before you can travel to or from there. That means that the first time you reach a location you have to do it by foot. For most of the game, there’s also a significant limitation when it comes to the fast travel system in God of War. You can only travel from somewhere to Tyr’s Temple. Seeing as the temple is the center of Midgard, and the place from which you can travel to other realms, that’s a bit convenient. If you need to get anywhere other than Tyr’s Temple fast, though, you’re walking.

In the late game, Brok will upgrade the system to make each fast travel point a two-way connection. This is great because by that time you’re probably going to be roaming all over the place looking for anything you missed and finishing up side quests.
