Far Cry 5: How to Save the Game

Far Cry 5 lets you save in two different ways, but neither one of them is very apparent. This makes it confusing as to when you’re actually hitting a checkpoint or safe to quit the game. Fortunately, it’s not hard to tell when you’re saving the game in Far Cry 5 once you know what to look for. Below we’ll tell you everything you need to know to save the game in Far Cry 5.

How to Save in Far Cry 5

This game, of course, features an autosave. The autosave tends to trigger when you fast travel, hit a checkpoint in a mission, complete a mission, and sometimes seemingly at random. It’s likely on a timer, though that isn’t explicitly mentioned in-game.

However, if you want to save the game in Far Cry 5 manually, things are a little less clear-cut. To get to the option to save manually, you’ll need to open the options menu (not the map/equipment menu). You should see “Save Game” near the bottom of the list of options here, but sometimes you just won’t. There are times when you can’t save in Far Cry 5 manually, but instead of graying the option out, it just removes it.

When you click on the save game button in Far Cry 5 you won’t get a box that appears asking you to pick a save slot or even just saying “Game Saved.” Instead, nothing happens at all. The only indicator you get as to when the game is saving is a few dots that appear in the top corner of the screen. Once these dots disappear, you’ll know the game has been saved successfully.

When in doubt if Far Cry 5 has saved or not, just jam on the save game button multiple times. It never hurts to be absolutely sure your save game is safe.
