Henry has to eat in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and it’s up to you to make sure he gets food. During gameplay, a nourishment meter slowly ticks down as you go about your business. If the meter gets too low, you’ll start suffering a penalty to your stats. If it hits zero, then Henry starves to death, and it’s game over. Luckily, food is reasonably plentiful, and you can cook it to add even more nourishment.
How to Get Food in Kingdom Come: Deliverance
You’ll find food all over the place in Kingdom Come, but one of the best places is on corpses. For some reason, in this game, everyone has a few apples, a loaf of bread, or what have you on their person at all times. Nothing makes Henry hungry like slaughtering a few bandits, so it’s convenient that they’re always packing some sort of snack on them that you can loot.
Another way to get a quick bite to eat is to snack out of pots you run into. Just about every house in Kingdom Come has a pot of stew hanging over the fire, and you can get a quick bite from it if you need a bit of a pick me up. It takes a little time before a pot regenerates a meal though, so you’ll have to hit multiple pots if you want to completely fill your nourishment.
If for some reason you haven’t killed anyone lately or ran into a pot of stew, you can head over to the town grocer or alehouse and pick up a meal. The good thing about these places is that the food is guaranteed to be fresh when you buy it.
One thing you have to keep an eye on though is a food’s freshness. Most foods will slowly degrade over time and start to turn rotten. If you eat them when they’re not fresh, then Henry will get food poisoning and take a blow to his stats. There are a few things you can do to keep your food fresher longer though.
How to Cook Food in Kingdom Come: Deliverance
A major way to make food last longer and to get it to provide more nourishment is to cook it. To cook food in Kingdom Come you just have to use the same fire that the various stew pots are hanging over in the game. If you look a little bit below the pot, you’ll see a prompt that says “cook food.” That’s your cue to cook.
Not everything in the game can be cooked. In fact, the only thing you have to worry about cooking at all is meat. When you kill animals in-game (or find it in loot), you’ll discover raw meat. Henry can’t eat raw meat (without a special perk), so you’ll need to grill it first. Cooked meat provides some of the highest nourishment of any food in the game, and tends to keep a little longer as well.
