Monster Hunter World Split-Screen

Monster Hunter World: Is Split-Screen Co-Op Available?

Couch co-op is becoming increasingly rare these days, so it’s natural to hope that Monster Hunter World =split-screen multiplayer would be available. The multiplayer component of Monster Hunter World is one of its big draws, and taking down massive monsters in split-screen co-op would be a blast.

Can You Play Split-Screen Co-Op in Monster Hunter World?

While co-op multiplayer is available for Monster Hunter World online, Capcom has been somewhat silent when it comes to local split-screen capabilities. Unfortunately, it looks like the game won’t have local co-op, though it’s somewhat understandable that it doesn’t.

Monster Hunter World is a vast action RPG that just doesn’t translate well to drop-in local split-screen co-op. It takes tens of hours to complete the content available in this game, so if a friend came to play co-op, they’d have to either play a clone of your character, play a pre-made character, or start a new one. Since a large part of the game’s focus is on building your character’s stats and inventory, doing any of those three things would suck a lot of the fun out of the game.

One solution would be to have a friend play as your Palico, but that runs into the same issues mentioned above. Palicos help out, but they don’t have near the power or the capabilities a hunter does. It makes sense for Monster Hunter World not to have split-screen co-op, and the online co-op is robust enough to make up for the lack of local options.

If you’re looking for a recent game that’s geared more towards couch co-op you should check out Call of Duty: WW2 which allows you to play both multiplayer and Zombies in split-screen mode.
