If you’re looking to get in on some Splatoon 2 action but don’t want to head online for Turf War or other battles just yet, consider playing the single-player Octo Canyon mode to learn the basics of ink warfare and everything within Inkopolis Square, or the central hub in which you’ll be playing the game outside of multiplayer lobbies.
How to Get Started in Octo Canyon
When you first start up the game, you’ll find yourself in Inkopolis Square. Look around you and take all the sights and sounds in. You’ll see a woman in the background with an umbrella. She might look a bit familiar. If so, that’s because it’s none other than Marie, one of the Squid Sisters from the first game. When you get close to her, she’ll disappear down the grate she’s standing on top of.
You’ll want to chase her, of course. Turn into squid form and go down the same manhole and you’ll find yourself at the entrance of Tentakeel Outpost. Marie is waiting there for you, ready to give you some work to do. You’ll be able to take a trip to the three worlds that comprise the single-player mode of the game from there, and thus begins your time in the single-player mode.
Be ready to uncover some pretty slick surprises along the way. You’ll see what we mean by the end. When you feel like you’ve sharpened your skills enough in Octo Canyon, make sure you try your hand at some multiplayer after that.
