Beejumbled Preview

These spelling bees make it more than your average word jumble game.

Beejumbled is about as slick as 3D cartoon bees facilitating a word-jumble game can be, which makes sense, with Take Two-owned developer Cat Daddy Games at the helm. The bee animations are smooth and cute, and it has a level of polish you don't normally see in iOS, Amazon, and Android casual games.

In Beejumbled you start by picking an avatar; at first you only have a generic male and female choice, but the game has themed bees to be unlocked with point-total thresholds. The themed bees aren't just cosmetic, either; they get a point bonus for words related to their theme. For instance, the opponent of the first level is a pirate-themed bee, and purchasing him allows you to get extra points for using "R" words.

Beejumbled's single player currently has nine boards, each with a different themed opponent and random generated letter content, so you'll never play the same game twice. Though there isn't a time restriction in the main mode, difficulty scales naturally by forcing you to score more points to win in each successive round; so you run out of easier or more standard words towards the end of later rounds.

The game is free-to-play, and in-game currency is in the form of honey drops, earned in gameplay. While it's possible to purchase more with real money, it's not necessary for the game. The in-game currency is used (in addition to buying new bees) to get one-off helper options that do things like show you the highest value word on the screen.

Unlike regular word jumble games, BeeJumbled is arranged in a hive configuration, made out of hexagons; meaning it will be a bit harder to cheat at the game since the arrangement isn't the standard configuration you can just punch the letters into an app online. It also makes for slightly more fluid UI for discovering and selecting words.

BeeJumbled, which launches June 13th on iOS, Android and Amazon, is a polished, free-to-play word jumble game with a slick look and some tweaks to the standard UI that appear for the better.
