Fallout 76 is going to introduce Fallout 1st, a paid-for service that is requesting $13 per month (or $99 per year) for additional content. Needless to say, players are up in arms, criticizing the huge price tag for the content being offered by Bethesda. But regardless of the steep asking price, some players are guaranteed to pay it. So we want to know: what single video game have you spent the most money on?
We’ve left out responses below, and as always leave your own in the comments section. We’ll feature our favorite in tomorrow’s Tell GR!
Paul Tamburro, executive editor: “I don’t typically invest in collector’s editions unless there’s some in-game content I really want, but in terms of DLC and microtransactions, I funneled a lot of cash into Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. I got heavily invested in the MMO for around six months before dropping it completely, but in the space of those months, a lot of money was thrown away. I bought a virtual horse for around $40. It’s a good thing I stopped playing that game.”
Jason Faulkner, senior editor: “If we’re just taking the video game purchase itself into account, it’s probably the Final Fantasy 7 Remake – 1st Class Edition at $329.99. That little motorcycle looks sweet, and with how much I’ve gotten out of the original FF7 over the years I don’t mind paying extra to support Square Enix. I’m sure there’s some retro games I’ve paid a pretty penny for, but none come immediately to mind. I do my best not to support the ridiculous markups on the secondary market, especially since none of that money actually goes to the companies that produced the games. Hardware, on the other hand, is a different story.”
Mack Ashworth, lead editor: “I think I spent around £90 on the “Gold Edition” of The Division. I was pretty hyped for that game and the “PS4 trick” meant it was a purchase for both my girlfriend and I. Nowadays, I just buy the base version of the game, as I’m really not into physical collectibles or bonus digital downloads.”
Michael Leri, features editor: “I’ve actually never bought any sort of microtransactions (like loot boxes or currency) so that just leaves regular DLC and re-releases on the table. That said, I probably spent the most money on Mortal Kombat 9. I bought the game on PS3, Vita, and PC ($106) as well as the DLC for the PS3 version ($25), which totals to $131 (even though I got $20 gift card from Amazon for buying the PS3 version). Mortal Kombat 11 would have surpassed that if I didn’t get a premium edition review code for the PS4 version, as I have already bought the premium edition on the Switch, too.
