Though video game collector’s editions normally entice fans with impressive statues, art books, or exclusive digital content, some offer items that are straight up bizarre. From corpse replicas to misshaped USB devices, the following are some of the most ridiculous collector’s editions so far including the newly announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Dark Edition.
Ridiculous collector’s editions | Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Dark Edition
First person shooter fans who go to the bathroom often in the middle of the night should be on the lookout for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Dark Edition this October. This collector’s edition will include night vision goggles that will allow fans to see up to 20 meters in “absolute darkness.” It will also feature black-and-white and phosphorous blue color settings that may be enough to help them navigate to the most faraway toilets in the world. As if the goggles weren’t cool enough on their own, people will be able to hang up their spectacles on a specially designed display stand when they’re ready to go back to bed. Of course, they can wear them in their sleep too.

While Modern Warfare 2‘s night vision goggles may not have been great, there’s practically no chance that those included in the Dark Edition will be nothing more than fancy plastic. Who wouldn’t want to rock this gear day and night?
Ridiculous collector’s editions | Death Stranding Collector’s Edition
The one thing that’s missing on everyone’s shelves is a baby in a pod. Thankfully, Kojima Productions will offer the item through the Death Stranding Collector’s Edition this November. The life-sized BB Pod will include a lamp that can be turned in case fans need a little company during the early morning hours. Unfortunately, the baby isn’t exactly the most portable item in the world, as Hideo Kojima was stopped at customs last month for carrying it in his suitcase. This being said, it does make for the perfect housewarming gift.
Ridiculous collector’s editions | F.E.A.R. 3 Collector’s Edition
The best companion piece to a baby in a pod is a pregnant woman with a bright green stomach. F.E.A.R. 3‘s collector’s edition is guaranteed to delight every man, woman, and child with its excellently detailed Alma figurine. It’s impossible not to admire the protrusions from the psychic’s belly, especially considering how they glow in the dark. The statuette isn’t big, but it’ll certainly make every visitor feel right at home.
Ridiculous collector’s editions | Call of Duty: World at War Collector’s Edition
Since drinking is overrated nowadays (photosynthesis is all the rage), Treyarch and Activision made the sensible decision to include a flask made out of solid metal with the Call of Duty: World at War Collector’s Edition. That’s right: the item has no openings to pour water or other questionable substances in. It’s a fashion accessory made with portability in mind, as one needs to show off the fact that they play Call of Duty games everywhere they go. The best part about it is that there’s no way for users to spill liquids, as the flask doesn’t hold them to begin with. Where would the world be today without clever design like this?
Ridiculous collector’s editions | Dead Island: Riptide Zombie Bait Edition
The Dead Island: Riptide Zombie Bait Edition takes the prize for the most grotesque collector’s edition ever offered. As evidenced in the image above, the package includes a mutilated bust of a woman’s bikini-clad torso. While this in itself is strange, the people who may have purchased this thing are arguably a lot weirder.
In all seriousness, where exactly would one display a bloodied, headless corpse? Office parties are sure to be awkward with one of these around. Having it at home may be a lot worse, as visitors may leave immediately and call the cops. Given the backlash that this collector’s edition had in 2013, there’s a chance that Dead Island 2 will avoid offering replicas of cadavers whenever it releases.
Ridiculous collector’s editions | NBA 2K10 Anniversary Edition
Every video game aficionado out there needs a place to hide their super secret software stash in. The NBA 2K10 Anniversary Edition offers gamers everywhere the opportunity to safely secure their cherished library with a specially designed — albeit tiny — locker. Skeptics should know that this offering comes with a lock, thus 100% preventing anyone from breaking the locker’s cheap hinges if they wanted. An action figure of Kobe Bryant also comes included with the package, though fans may need a magnifying glass to admire it.
Ridiculous collector’s editions | Resident Evil 7 Collector’s Edition
On the surface, the Resident Evil 7 Collector’s Edition doesn’t seem too strange, especially when compared to babies in pods and figurines of pregnant women. Upon closer inspection, however, one may find that the finger USB device looks like some kind of penis. To be more precise, the item resembles a burnt, mangled dick. While bending it at its joints does help give a more finger-like appearance, there’s no refuting how odd the item looks when protruding from the side of a laptop. If one thing’s for certain, this goodie will attract a lot of attention in public. That may or may not be a good thing, depending on what one is looking for.
There’s a decent chance that collector’s editions will only get weirder in the future. Here’s hoping that most don’t end up including something that looks like genitalia. Our spouses may never think of us in the same way ever again.
