Cities Skylines 2 Steam Workshop Install Mods

Cities Skylines 2 Steam Workshop: Can You Install Mods Through Steam?

Those wanting to dive right into the Cities Skylines 2 Steam Workshop and download some mods are in for some disappointment. If you head into Steam, you’ll notice there is no link to a workshop for CS2. Congratulations, you’ve stumbled onto some of the drama surrounding this game’s launch.

Will there be a Cities Skylines 2 Steam Workshop?

Cities Skylines 2 will not use Steam Workshop for mod support. While the workshop is the primary repository for mods for the original game, Paradox Interactive has opted to use its own platform, Paradox Mods, to host third-party content for the sequel.

More Cities: Skylines

In an official FAQ, Paradox explained that Cities Skylines 2 won’t support Steam Workshop integration. Instead, Paradox Mods will be available through the Paradox Launcher, and users will be able to download and update mods there. The upside to this is that CS2 mods uploaded to this service will be available on PC and console.

Will Paradox Mods look different on Cities: Skylines II than on Cities: Skylines (1) or other games that already are on the platform?

We’ve been planning and working on the Paradox Mods platform for Cities: Skylines II from the very beginning of the development of the game and will continue after its release.

The version made for Cities: Skylines 1 was made so that a few hand-selected assets could be used on XBOX, and the idea for Cities: Skylines II is much grander. We want to make the creation, uploading, sharing, and downloading experience as smooth as possible for a community that enjoys modding as much as you do. We will have full freedom to make any changes, improve any feature, and take any suggestions and make them into reality, so when you get your hands on the platform, we will be listening eagerly to all your voices!”

Unfortunately, at launch, Cities Skylines 2 doesn’t have mod support at all. Paradox says it’s coming soon, but there’s no solid release date for the feature yet. The devs have their hands full dealing with performance issues and crashing, as the game launched somewhat half-baked.
