The team behind the upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has said that they will not be implementing “game-y type” missions, adding “we are not a game.”
In response to fan feedback
In a recent stream from the MSFOfficial Twitch channel (as spotted by Rock Paper Shotgun), Jorg Neumann, head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, said people were suggesting that the trailer for the 2024 version of the simulation IP was “paper thin.”
It seemed as though some fans were concerned that MSFS2024 was going to be an expansion of some kind. Neumann insisted that the trailer was advertising a completely new game in the franchise, adding that it’s the “biggest undertaking ever” as far as flight simulation goes.
The Twitch seminar continues by saying that around three million fans are “core gamers,” and that many people wanted more stuff to do in the game.
However, Neumann says that Microsoft Flight Simulator is “not a game,” and the new entry will put focus on aviation activities. MSFS2024 will feature “Pilot Lifestyles” in which players will get to take on the role of what many aviation experts around the world do, such as firefighting.
Of all the simulation titles available, Microsoft’s take on the genre is arguably the OG. Other examples, such as the popular Truck Simulator or the somewhat more indie PowerWash Simulator from FuturLab, have kept gamers interested in simulations of the real world or real life situations for years.
In any case, if you enjoy Microsoft Flight Simulator, and have done for years, you’ll probably already be aware that these are not “games” in the truest sense of the word. But at least the developer has now made that clear for the upcoming installment.
