Star Wars Jedi Survivor Dismemberment

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Human Dismemberment Confirmed in New Footage

You’ll be able to dismember at least one type of human foe in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Despite the iconic weapon’s vaunted ability to cut through anything, in Fallen Order, only creatures and droids felt the full brunt of Cal’s lightsaber. On the other hand, humans (and humanoids) would be scorched on impact but remain intact.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor may allow you to dismember some humanoid enemies

In IGN’s video on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor combat stances, we noticed that at least one instance of human dismemberment is in the game. At the 4:15 mark, Cal is seen fighting a group of Scout troopers, and as he defeats one, the trooper’s leg is severed.

However, it’s worth noting that the footage is from a pre-release version of the game. So, it’s entirely possible that dismembering humanoid foes isn’t something that’ll make it into the final product.

If human dismemberment has been added to the game, it’ll be a marked departure from Respawn’s statements about the feature leading up to the release of Fallen Order. For example, speaking with The Verge, the narrative lead Aaron Contreras stated that the devs’ goal was to follow the guidelines that Star Wars films have set for the loss of limbs:

“So, with Jedi: Fallen Order, we’ve really followed the authentic Star Wars / Lucasfilm realization of dismemberment. Which is that it happens in big story moments occasionally, but you don’t see it happening constantly to sentient people.”

Obi-Wan’s defense of Luke in Mos Eisley in A New Hope and Luke’s hand being severed in Cloud City at the conclusion of The Empire Strikes Back are two iconic moments that involve the loss of a limb. So, it’s understandable why Respawn would want to practice restraint out of respect. However, in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the devs might find a balance that allows more realistic lightsaber interactions without producing a constant rain of limbs.
