Xbox Boss Phil Spencer: Digital Game Sharing Is “in Our Roadmap”

Though it got cut from the platform's launch window after a bungled reveal, Microsoft has not left its Family Sharing platform in the dust and speaking with fan podcast Gamer Tag Radio Phil Spencer once again teased adding the feature back in an update.

Microsoft has really impressed me with steady, monthly updates to the Xbox One system and Spencer told listeners that Family Sharing could come back as the company continues to build the platform up. "As I look at our monthly update roadmap, those kind of features are in our roadmap," Spencer said.

Family Sharing got detailed at the console's reveal, but it was cut as some of the DRM requiring a constant internet connection and a constant feed from Kinect were cut before Xbox One's launch.

Microsoft has repeatedly stated that Family Sharing could return, but they've been much more cautious about sharing details since that hurt them in the past.

"We looked at the digital features that we had talked about last year and as a gamer, there were a lot of those features that I think really resonated and were smart features for people who really have a lot of games and maybe play on a couple consoles or have a bunch of people in the house or want to share with friends," Spencer said.

Family Sharing might still prove a hurdle for the Xbox One manufacturer, though Spencer still seems optimistic. "There is a little bit of a challenge now that you've got DRM on a disc."
