Nintendo has released its latest financial report, and unfortunately for the Big N, things aren't looking particularly great. The company is facing an annual operating loss of ¥46.4 billion ($457 million) and a net loss of ¥23.2 billion ($22.8 million). Not good.
Wii U console sales currently clock in at just 6.17 million, a figure that has already been outpaced by PlayStation 4's 7 million in sales—and Sony's console has only been out since November! This past quarter only 310,000 units were sold, which is a 20 percent decline in Wii U sales when compared to the same time last year.
On the portable front, the situation isn't quite as dire, but sales aren't living up to Nintendo's expectations. That said, a total of 590,000 3DS units were sold last quarter. This brings the total number of 3DS sales to 43.3 million. 2DS hasn't taken off like Nintendo hoped either, with the console making up 2.2 million of the handheld's total sales.
Nintendo isn't holding a traditional press conference at E3, but that doesn't mean the company won't be making some exciting announcements. Here's to hoping releases like Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. turn the company's fortunes around. Otherwise, I think Iwata may be in trouble.
