Quite a few details surrounding Facebook's $2 billion purchase of Oculus VR remain a mystery, including exactly what the social media company hopes to accomplish with the technology, but some applications could include check-ups with your doctor.
In announcing the deal on his wall, Mark Zuckerberg wrote "We're going to focus on helping Oculus build out their product and develop partnerships to support more games. Oculus will continue operating independently within Facebook to achieve this."
"After games, we're going to make Oculus a platform for many other experiences," Zuckerburg continued. "Imagine enjoying a court side seat at a game, studying in a classroom of students and teachers all over the world or consulting with a doctor face-to-face — just by putting on goggles in your home."
While I personally couldn't trade the experience in a bleacher seat for a virtual courtside view, life is becoming prohibitively expensive for most of us. Is this really an option that the 99% should accept as an alternative for equality and even footing in finance?
