Nintendo 3DS console sales have broken the 15 million mark in Japan.
This news comes from Famitsu (via Siliconera) who's reporting that the figure includes both the original and XL models of the handheld. The 2DS is not included in the sales figure because it still isn't available in the region.
It's crazy to think that just a couple of years ago many thought Nintendo's stronghold on the handheld space was in jeopardy thanks to the rise of smartphones and tablets. Thanks to some killer software, the Big N has proven that it can hang with the new kids on the playground. Now if only the company could do the same thing with Wii U…
