Roller Champions Not Canceled

Ubisoft Denies Roller Champions Will Be Canceled After Season 3

Rumors started spreading earlier today that Ubisoft’s latest free-to-play sports game Roller Champions would be canceled after Season 3, but Ubisoft Montreal has released a statement that denies that is the case. The developer also revealed they were extending the length of the game’s first season, Disco Fever.

Roller Champions is not being canceled

The rumors were started by Jeff Grubb on the most recent Xbox Era podcast, as he read a message from a source claiming the game would be canceled after Season 3. Ubisoft had said during their last financial results that Roller Champions was tracking ahead of Ubisoft’s failed battle royale Hyper Scape, so a cancelation this soon would be surprising. Ubisoft Montreal confirmed this stance by saying “Roller Champions isn’t getting canceled, and Ubisoft fully supports it.” The game is currently in the middle of Season 1 and the developer says “we’ve got exciting stuff planned for the next seasons.” However, before this content is released, they want to fix the game and sort out the issues that players are bringing to their attention.

The result of this is that the length of Season 1, Disco Fever, is being extended and this is for two main reasons. The first is a patch coming soon that will implement cross-invites to improve the game’s social experience; more details are promised soon. The second is that they’re going to take time to fix the “irritants” players are finding. While the cross-invite patch will also include fixes, the team wants to add more improvements before they launch Season 2.

In other news, MultiVersus is the most popular fighting game on Steam, beating the average player numbers of 13 other fighting games put together. Elsewhere, #BoycottAquaman2 started trending as Warner Bros. Pictures refuses to recast Amber Heard’s character Mera despite a petition with 4.6 million signatures asking otherwise.
