Skyblivion Mod Isn’t Dead, Will Transform Skyrim Into an Oblivion Remake

A brand new trailer for the upcoming Skyblivion mod, essentially a remake of Oblivion in the Skyrim engine, has been posted online by the developers. The update confirms that the highly anticipated mod is still in development, although the team behind it still hasn’t revealed a release date. It also includes plenty of brand new footage of the work that has been completed so far.

Does Skyblivion have a release date yet?

Speaking in the update video, the developers explain d that recreating all of the 3D assets for Oblivion has eaten up much of the time spent working on the mod. However, the vast majority of the assets have now been completed but that doesn’t mean that players can expect Skyblivion to release in the near future, with the team saying that a launch is “a ways out.” There is some reason to be cautiously optimistic, though, with the devs explaining that “despite the massive scope of this project, we are finally seeing the end of the road.”

Meanwhile, the trailer itself showcases some of the work that has been done to upgrade the various models, equipment, and locations from Oblivion. A selection of Daedric weapons and armor are highlighted along with new clothing items. The video also gives an extended look at the goblins and how the town of Bruma has changed compared to the original game.

Skyblivion has been in development since 2012 by the TESRenewal modding group, which is made up entirely of volunteers. It aims to completely recreate the fourth Elder Scrolls game in Skyrim, rebuilding the continent of Cyrodiil in the upgraded engine. The mod will be freely available to anyone who owns legitimate copies of both Oblivion and Skyrim. The team has continually released large updates to keep fans in the know about progress and the state of the mod.

In other news, Batman: Arkham Asylum developer Rocksteady has delayed Suicide Squad to next year while Microsoft has been hacked by the same group that previously targeted Samsung and Nvidia.
