Is there a PUBG 2 release date for PC and consoles? The game that launched the battle royale genre, previously known as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, has just gone free-to-play for the first time this week, and that may be a sign that developer Krafton is preparing to launch a paid sequel later this year — or, maybe it’ll stick with the free version and expand on it. Will PUBG Battlegrounds 2 release in 2022 or later?
What is the PUBG 2 release date on PC and consoles?
PUBG 2 will release sometime later in 2022, if it still exists in its current form.
When PUBG: New State was released many thought that it could be the long-promised sequel to Battlegrounds, albeit a mobile-only one, but leakers such as PlayerIGN (via PCGamesN) have said that PUBG 2 is still in the works and is due to come out this year. If it does release, PUBG 2 will definitely come out on PC and should appear on consoles.
However, there is also a rumor that the straight PUBG 2 has been canceled and many of its features are being put back into the new free-to-play version of PUBG: Battlegrounds, in order to expand it Fortnite-style, instead of dividing the playerbase with a sequel. If so, it’s probably better to just start playing the free version instead of waiting for a sequel.
Will there be a PUBG 2 Switch release?
If PUBG 2 is coming out it will probably not get a Nintendo Switch release as the original PUBG: Battlegrounds is not on Switch. Although, as Fortnite is popular on the platform, it is possible Krafton may attempt to do a Switch version of PUBG 2 . If that’s the case, though, don’t expect it to arrive at the same time as the PC and other console versions.
PUBG is now free-to-play on Steam, and here’s what to do if the error message “modified access to the lobby is detected” appears when you try to boot it up.
