The Batman Catwoman whip

The Batman is bringing back Catwoman’s iconic whip

It looks like The Batman will feature Catwoman’s whip, bringing back the villain’s iconic weapon for the first time in a movie since Batman Returns. The Batman 2022’s Catwoman/Selina Kyle (Zoë Kravitz) made a major showing at the DC Fandome event last weekend, where she played a big role in the new trailer but was not shown with the character’s iconic whip. Now the reveal of the new The Batman Catwoman action figure has shown that the villain’s weapon will indeed be back.

The Batman: Catwoman’s whip returns for 2022

The Batman Catwoman whip

While it hasn’t yet been shown in any official videos or photos in live-action, it seems Catwoman’s iconic whip weapon will appear in The Batman 2022 movie. This is going by the official Catwoman action figure made by McFarlane toys and is currently available to pre-order at various outlets worldwide, which was only unveiled this week after the Fandome event. The recent reveal of The Batman LEGO sets showed Catwoman with a chain instead, but as McFarlane usually focuses on accuracy it’s more likely to be correct — the figure’s description even calls it a whip.

It’s unknown how much Catwoman’s whip will feature in the movie but it marks the first time the character has had her iconic weapon on film since Michelle Pfeiffer in 1992’s Batman Returns, as Anne Hathaway in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises didn’t have it. The whip may make more of an appearance in The Batman’s Catwoman spin-off show that’s reportedly in the works, despite the rumored HBO Max series not being announced or confirmed at DC Fandome 2021.

The toy series also offers a really good look at The Riddler/Edward Nashton (Paul Dano), who has only really been glimpsed in the various trailers — despite fan reactions are mostly still undecided about the character’s mask, although most are happy with how creepy it looks.

The Batman will release on March 4, 2022. The action figures, including Catwoman, have a US release date of January 28, 2022.
