PlayStation 5 might offer impressive load speeds thanks to the internal SSD, but switching games can still be cumbersome. Xbox Series X|S consoles feature “Quick Resume” functionality, allowing users to suspend and instantly resume multiple games at once. Accounting for this disparity, will PS5 get Quick Resume in the future? Here’s the latest on users being able to run multiple game states at once on Sony’s PS5 hardware.
Is PS5 getting the Quick Resume feature?
PS5 owners can quickly swap between games and apps using the Control Center’s “Switcher” option. There are currently no known plans regarding a Quick Resume feature on PlayStation 5, however.
The Switcher makes swapping between PS5 games and apps relatively quick and painless, though, undeniably, it’s still slower than on Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation 5 boots each application fresh, meaning that players need to endure any loading screens to reach the main menu and then enter gameplay. Microsoft’s Quick Resume feature, on the other hand, allows users to instantly pick a game up right where they left it — without any kind of loading requirement.
Quick Resume supports up to three optimized Xbox Series X|S games at once. Since Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox games all use less memory that cap doesn’t apply. Users are free to suspend multiple games spread across multiple generations at the same time, with the exact combination dictating the upper limit.
In theory, Sony could implement Quick Resume functionality on PS5 in a future update; the PlayStation 5 features similar technical specs to the Xbox Series X. While it could be a possibility down the line, unfortunately, the new PS5 2.0 system software patch doesn’t include any such addition.
Elsewhere in gaming news, reports indicate that a Battlefield 2042 delay is on the horizon. Deathloop is getting some negative reception on Steam due to performance issues absent from the PS5 version.
