Back 4 Blood Trauma Damage Explained

Back 4 Blood Trauma: Why does my max HP keep going down?

Those playing the Back 4 Blood open beta might notice that their max health is decreasing over time. This is due to the Trauma mechanic, which isn’t explained well in the game. We’ll go over how Trauma works in Back 4 Blood and how to restore HP back to its original max.

What does Trauma do in Back 4 Blood?

Each player starts with a certain amount of max HP, which cards can modify. As players take damage from enemies, they’ll lose both health points, and their max health will decrease due to Trauma damage. Basically, it can be thought of as the character accumulating wounds over time. Players might be able to bandage them, but the Trauma is still there.

Trauma damage is affected by difficulty. The higher the difficulty a user players on, the more they’ll be affected by Trauma. While the mechanic is enabled on all three difficulties, players will heal some trauma damage between chapters on Classic (Easy). However, it’ll require a visit to a first aid station in order to fix it.

How to heal Back 4 Blood Trauma

To remove Trauma damage in Back 4 Blood, players will need to visit a first aid station. These are typically located in buildings dotted around the map and are red boxes fixed onto a wall. The first aid stations will either be free or paid, so make sure you pay attention to the text before you’re about to heal.

Here’s what the first aid station provides:

  • Free Charge: A set number of free charges are available to players which heal them for no cost.
  • Paid Charge: Players pay 400 copper to heal themselves.

Using one of these will heal a user for a significant portion of health depending on the difficulty level and remove a lot of Trauma damage.

So, Trauma damage reduces a player’s max HP in Back 4 Blood. It also adds more strategy when considering just how much copper you wish to spend, given their reliance on first aid stations.
