Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut free PS5 upgrade

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut revealed in ESRB rating

Ghost of Tsushima launched as one of the final PS4 exclusives, though now it looks set to hit Sony’s next-gen PS5 hardware too. A Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut ESRB rating stands as pretty definitive proof that PlayStation Studios’ samurai action game is due a re-release. The listing offers no indication of what new content might feature in this (presumably) expanded version, or whether existing owners will be able to claim a free upgrade.

Is there a free Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut upgrade?

Sony offers free PS5 upgrades to users that own applicable PS4 exclusives, like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Final Fantasy 7 Remake. There’s no confirmation at the time of writing, though Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut most likely won’t differ.

Ghost of Tsushima provided a worthy final farewell to the PlayStation 4 generation. Despite this, a number of players lamented its absence from the approaching PS5 launch lineup. With many gamers saving to go all-in on the new console, Sucker Punch Productions’ latest title arguably fell somewhat by the wayside.

The impending Director’s Cut looks to remedy this issue with a dedicated PS5 version. While the original is fully playable on PlayStation 5 owing to backward compatibility, Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut should take full advantage of the new hardware. According to the ESRB rating, however, it’s also coming to PS4. Hopefully, there’s enough additional content to justify another playthrough for those struggling to secure a next-generation console.

Interestingly, this Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut ESRB leak closely follows the Death Stranding Director’s Cut announcement. In that instance, though, there’s no accompanying PS4 version. Still, with a clear pattern emerging it’s easy to wonder whether more PS4 console exclusives could eventually receive director’s cut upgrades.

In other news, it’s a big day for game updates. There’s Smash Ultimate 12.0, Rainbow Six Siege 2.08, and Apex Legends 1.73 — get complete patch notes at the corresponding links.
