Hideo Kojima new game discussed and Death Stranding: Director's Cut revealed

Hideo Kojima new game and Death Stranding Director’s Cut discussed at Summer Game Fest

The Summer Game Fest 2021 opening ceremony is now underway, and the reveals are coming rapid-fire. Between new trailers and fresh game announcements, host Geoff Keighley took a quick aside to introduce legendary developer Hideo Kojima. Though the talk was brief, the segment ended with a fresh reveal for the expanded Death Stranding Director’s Cut.

It would hardly be a Keighley-presented show if Kojima wasn’t mentioned in some capacity. However, the speed with which the developer arrived on the scene came as a pleasant surprise.

We’re happy to report that it was a classic Hideo Kojima appearance. The bulk of the chat centered around Kojima’s creative process, and how it’s changed in the wake of a modern world. Namely, Kojima said he’s been re-thinking his creative process, fine-tuning the ideas he’ll use to approach a new game.

Unfortunately, what sort of new game Kojima may be dreaming up is still a mystery for now. However, before Keighley and Kojima said their goodbyes, there was one more surprise in store: A fresh look at the expanded version of Death Stranding, referred to as the Director’s Cut of the game.

The new trailer starts off with a very Metal Gear Solid vibe, particularly when it comes down to sentry patrols and audio cues. Sam also spends a generous amount of time eyeballing a cardboard box, seemingly with the intent to use it for stealth. Snake would certainly be proud.

Otherwise, not too much is known about Death Stranding Director’s Cut. Thankfully, at the end of the segment, Keighley promised that a “full reveal” for the Director’s Cut is only weeks away. With luck, we should learn more details about the expanded version of the game later this month. Of course, it also sounds like any further Death Stranding reveals at E3 2021 are unlikely.
