Some Xbox Series X|S players are having trouble with Mortal Kombat 11. Despite installing and running the game, they’re eventually told that Story Mode is unavailable. This error seems to crop up at the worst possible time, and to make matters more frustrating, it seems to imply an incomplete installation. Here’s how to fix the Story Mode unavailable error on the Xbox Series X|S.
Mortal Kombat 11 Story Mode unavailable fix | Xbox Series X|S
Mortal Kombat 11 will say Story Mode unavailable when the Story add-on content has not been installed. On the Xbox Series X|S, this can happen with the either base or the 4K Story DLC. To fix the problem, simply download the content pack or reinstall the game.
For whatever reason, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is comprised of several pieces of downloadable content. As you may have expected, the game’s Story Mode is one of these DLC packs. The default behavior is to install all packs at once, but it’s possible to miss out on some if you pick-and-choose downloads.
If you just installed enough of the game to make it playable, you likely haven’t installed the main story mode. To fix the problem, highlight the game’s icon on the Series X|S dashboard or in the game library, then press the Menu button. From there, go to the Game and Add-Ons menu, then choose to download either Story or Story 4K. The 4K option is specifically for players with a 4K display.
In some instances, the above step won’t be enough. Either the content won’t download or the download will get stuck. If Story Mode is still unavailable, you can fix the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling the game.
The Mortal Kombat 11 Story Mode will be unavailable if you haven’t downloaded and installed the content pack. You’ll need to manage your game add-ons to make sure it’s installed properly. If nothing else, uninstall the game, then choose to reinstall everything all at once. That should fix the problem.
