If being completely terrified sounds like a fun time, Phasmophobia is the game for you. The new early access release from Kinetic Games is blowing up on Steam, giving horror fans all the thrills they could ever hope for. Since it’s available on PC, you may be wondering if you can play Phasmophobia on Mac computers. Be warned, the answer may frighten you.
Is Phasmophobia available on Mac?
Phasmophobia is currently only available for Windows PCs via Steam. Unfortunately, that means there is no official Mac support for users with Apple hardware. The only way to play Phasmophobia on Mac is to use third-party software, and compatibility is not guaranteed.
Let’s get to the point. At the time of writing, there is no Phasmophobia Mac version. The game is available exclusively through Steam Early Access on Windows-based computers. For most gamers, this line of thinking ends here: It’s not available on Mac.
However, determined users may want to find a way to make the game run on a Mac. For that, they’ll need to use outside software: A virtual machine, a dual-boot setup, a compatibility layer, or a remote desktop.
This is advanced territory, and it’s not recommended for most users. However, it is technically possible to get the game up and running through software like Wine, or to dual boot Windows and MacOS with programs like Boot Camp. Alternatively, you can run the game on a Windows PC and stream it to a Mac with remote desktop software. Though if you go that route, we’d recommend simply playing the game on its own native platform.
If you want to play Phasmophobia on Mac, it’s going to take a lot of work. More work than it’s worth, if we’re being honest. There’s currently no Mac version, so you’d have to either dual boot Windows, use a compatibility layer, or stream it to your Apple PC from a Windows PC. Or, you could simply wait for it to release for the Oculus Quest.
